Last week: 7 “When you pray, don’t pour out a flood of empty words, as the Gentiles do.
They think that by saying many words they’ll be heard. 8 Don’t be like them, because your Father knows what you need before you ask (Matthew 6:7-8 CEB)
This week: 9 Pray like this: Our Father who is in heaven,
WHEN WE PRAY:
1. We are talking to our FATHER
uphold the holiness of your name (Matthew 6:9 CEB)
2. This is a Prayer of Adoration
When we pray the first motive of our heart should be for God to be glorified…
“16 …I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth…18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them…26 …the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid…” — John 14:16-27 (CEB)
"26 In the same way, the Spirit comes to help our weakness. We don’t know what we should pray, but the Spirit himself pleads our case with unexpressed groans. 27 The one who searches hearts knows how the Spirit thinks, because he pleads for the saints, consistent with God’s will.” — Romans 8:26-27 (CEB)
It’s important to keep your “Spiritual Airplane Mode” off so that your mind, heart & spirit will be “ON” to God’s transforming work.
4. God is Holy!!
“When I saw him, I fell at his feet like a dead man. But he put his right hand on me and said, "Don’t be afraid. I’m the first and the last,” — Revelation 1:17 (CEB)
